2016 US News College Rankings September 10 US News World Report has released its 2016 college rankings. US News World Report has released their annual college rankings. While there are many college rankings out there, the US News World Report ranking is by far and away the most significant of the rankings. Many parents and students rely on these rankings when deciding upon which colleges to apply to particularly in other parts of the world like China and the rankings are also extremely important to the colleges that appear on the list. If a college admissions officer tells you that the school doesnt care about their ranking, we suggest you politely smile and nod but know that you have just been told a lie. Because colleges absolutely care about their rankings. They care about them a whole lot! So which university took first this year in the all-important US News World Report college rankings? Among national universities, that would be, once again, Princeton University. This marks the third year in a row that Princeton has topped the ranking. Harvard University finished in second, with Yale University landing in third. In fourth place sits three universities in a three-way tie: Columbia University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago. In seventh place is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by Duke University in eighth place, and the University of Pennsylvania in ninth. The California Institute of Technology, a school that years ago topped this very ranking a couple of times, and Johns Hopkins University rounded out the top ten. Dartmouth College finished in twelfth along with Northwestern University. Brown followed in the fourteenth spot, followed by a three way tie between Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, and Washington University in St. Louis. Rice University finished in eighteenth along with the University of Notre Dame and the University of California at Berkeley rounded out the top twenty. This means that Emory University, Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of California Los Angeles are on the outside of the top twenty, looking in.
